Out of Power for 5 Days! was created by GreyGoose

Well, we got hit with a pretty severe wind storm last Tuesday, and 150K+ people lost power for 5+ days, many thousands still down, we got power back today!

We were okay, I have a propane generator and we prep so it was little more than an inconvenience not having internet for us.

However for others it was life and death.

Temps crashed into the teens and a few people have perished.

What a fragile fine line we walk when it comes to our infrastructure!

It was a wind storm... think about it.

Be prepared gentleman, what will it be next... ;-)

Glad you and yours are OK. Those generators are pretty nice. Dad just installed a Generac system with two 500 gallon propane tanks so he'll be good to go for 30+ days at normal power usage if he loses power.

Let me see, Washington state , inland, central valley. I can get real close with more than 2 minutes. Glad you weathered the storm, wouldn't expect less. It goes along with our demographic.

I am looking at a Kohler or Generac generator. I know where Grey is. Panhandle of Idaho. I have 1500 gallons of propane at any one time, and 15 logging cords of wood. Gotta get that generator though.

I'm not familiar with the Kohler but I'm very impressed with the Generac my Father had put in, has a sensor remote control for everything, even keeps the oil warm

Actually 1200 gallons. I have a 500 and a 1000 gallon tank. You can only fill 80%. I own them, so I buy propane once a year in the middle of the summer. Paid 89 cents a gallon last time. Two years ago some people got stuck with $6 a gallon for two months in the winter. Also have an outside wood boiler so if propane is expensive, I burn wood. Get a generator to run the well pumps and boiler pumps, and I am set.

Glad to hear you made it through the storm fairly well.

A few years ago we had a derecho come through and lost power for 10 days. Ever since then we've made sure we had a generator on hand to run the necessities. It's amazing how little power you need to run a house when you do not use the air conditioning.
