M118LR experience in a standard AR10 was created by Siscowet

I am interested in hearing any and all experience with the M118LR round in AR10's. With a 1 in 11 barrel twist, is it pushing the envelope too much to use a 175 grain? I am using the standard heavy barrel, not the AR10 T.

I have an AR10A4 carbine with an 11.25 twist. I've shot 175 gr M118LR and FGMM out of it with no issues in regards to accuracy. I have a FF forend on mine and my groups stay about 1-1.25 MOA out to 600m or so. With that twist, 175 would be the max I'd go as far as bullet weight is concerned.

Thanks for the feedback. That is outstanding out of a carbine length barrel! The weather here in Wisconsin is supposed to break this weekend so I hope to get out and put some rounds through mine. I am guessing that it will be more accurate than my old eyes let me be.

600-700 is about the norm for a 16" 308. I've seen videos of folks going out to 1000 with them, but I've never done it or seen it done myself. A 16 inch barrel doesn't give much away in terms of MV compared to a 20 inch, and the barrel doesn't flex as much as a 20 inch either.

I have a lot to learn about that. My AR15 National Match HBAR from the old days is 20 ". So that's what I am used to. That more than anything is why I picked this length, that and finding anything right now without a 8 month wait is tough. At least in this area. So I grabbed this one when I could.

Nothing wrong with a 20" pipe. It's easily an 800m+ set up. IMO, Armalite really underrates the accuracy potential of their rifles. I suppose it makes more sense to say a rifle will do 2-2.5 MOA and have it exceed that spec than to make a bold claim of 1 (or less) MOA and not be able to reach that mark consistantly.

Hope you're able to get to the range. What sort of optics are you using?
