Scope Suggestions for a .308

Scope Suggestions for a .308 was created by moje45

I'm shopping around for a AR10 as we speak, and I was curious to see what sort of suggestions people had for scope selection. I plan to be shooting around 500m+. This is of course an estimate and most shots will be unknown distances. I'm leaning towards a mil dot of some kind, but beyond Leupold and Zeiss I am not all that familiar with them. Any recommendations for price? Or should I save my money and get a really nice scope?

Get a really nice scope beyond Zeiss or Leupold...
that's funny...
How much do you want to spend...then.

Welcome to the site by the way....
This is a subject of such great debate that it has been going on for decades amongst the gun community...
But really, sorry in a playful mood today.....check out the optic section...there are several threads regarding just that question..
but it all comes down to $$$$$$.
Don't go cheap...trust me on that...let me know if you have any difficulty navigating the site and I will help you if I can... :)

Thanks BMS! I appreciate the input. I will poke around the optics section and try to get a feel for what would work best for my situation.

Cheers!

I'm in the process of mounting a Burris Eliminator to my AR-10T. For me, shooting at unknown distanced from 600 yards on in or so, this seems to be the perfect solution if the thing proves to be accurate. Mounting was simple. Now need the time to get out and zero. Paid $785 shipped from Red-Dot-Scopes.com.

I've been looking at that scope myself.
Great technology and one heck of an idea.
Please let us know how the scope works out at the range.
Does it feel tough enough for heavey use?

Good luck.

Externally, it seems to be as tough or tougher than any other scope out there. Not sure about the internal electronics but have not heard any bad reports. I mounted it directly to the rail without any 1/2 spaces as shown in the video. I think this will work better for me, I like my scopes generally as low as possible as long as I can maintain a good cheek weld and eye relief. Little concerned as I had to mount it pretty far forward so that in my haste to grab the charging handle, I do not hit the eyepiece. Another minor concern is that the low end of the operating temp that the scope can handle is something like 14 degrees F. I think at that temp, the batteries will stop generating juice. Some of my Nov to Feb coyote hunts in western North Dakota exceed that limit. Good excuse to stay home and warm I guess.

That Burris is intense! I think I'm going to start putting my pennies away for one of those!

If you are saving your pennies, coninue saving a little more and look at one of these. It is one of the most finest pieces of glass out there. I waited 33 weeks for my custom build but I have never been happier or more tickled about shooting my AR since mounting this fine unit.

AGIE*86,

Have you thought about wrapping your scope with an electric sock to keep your scope battery warm on those brisk ND winter days?

It might work.
