Bushmaster 308 ORC dented shell casings was created by oilfielder71
I got a new Bushmaster recently. I finally got to got to the range today. The ejected shell casings had a dent on the side about halfway down. I shot 10 rounds of Fusion 150 grain ammo, then I tried 10 rounds of remington 180 grain. Every brass casing had the same dent. Where they neck down there were some that had some marks or scratches.

The scratches on the neck are normal...My AR-10 does the same thing...
The other dent is most likely caused by the Deflector....I occasionally have the same dents also....Nothing to worry about...

That's odd. Our old HK-91 did the same thing with the addition of denting the throat. Made the brass worthless for reloading. I never found out why, but an ejection port buffer fixed the problem.
Our 10s throw the cases about 10 feet in the 2 o'clock direction, and they're clean as a whistle.

I did some research on that issue and its far from rare, not just in AR's but AK' and others. The standard fix seems to be the ejection port buffer no matter the weappon. You can buy them, make them or live with it...

You are welcome...you down my way working Eagle Ford Shale?
Got some friends in the business and it looks like there is a shale play out in W Tex and this is what he told me: "its Eagle Ford on STEROIDS". Look for an announcement this year sometime.
