Guides for learning reloading was created by crux

One of the disadvanatges of .308 right now is cost. Indeed someone at the range joked of the election "I want to ask them, What are you going to do about ammo prices!" ;)

Can anyone suggest any detailed / high quality guides for reloading procedures/techniques/equipment?

I usualy prefer as much technical detail as possible.

Lees loading manual is a good place to start. I wouldn't jump into their equipment per say but
I do use their factory crimp dies and collet neck sizer dies.

I am sure everyone is already aware, but the biggest drawback of the 308 is the unavailability of components. I cannot find Lapua brass. I cannot even find large magnum rifle primers. I started at Cabelas and Midway and went on from there. I found A-MAX 168 GR bullets at Midway. But no quality brass and no LMR primers. Haven't decided on powder yet...

Incidentally, I am reloading because the commercial, match-grade (Black Hills) ammo is hard to locate and buy in bulk. Seems to be a result of the election.

I have the Hornady and Sierra manuals that have info on loading for the service rifles. I have not seen the Lee manual as the gentleman above suggested. Try some of the mail order places if you cannot find supplies local. Widners and Graf&Sons are a couple.

Once you get started and figure out whats going on go get
Handloading for competition by Glen Zediker then you can get really deep into handloading.

The Sierra Reloading data manual is where I got started.

Always remember to start light and work up to maximum pressure levels in incremnents. I found that I rarely had to go to any real extremes to find the sweet spot for a particular rifle to shoot with extreme precision and repeatability/consistancy.

Take a lot of notes, spend a lot of time at the range in varying weather condidtions and practice a lot. Do not skimp on tools or components and do everything at least twice to maintain QA on your handloads. I used to be so anal that I threw each powder charge by hand and weighed every one to keep everything as consistant as possible.

It worked.

I found these...

I have used Federal Primers for a long time and have always been very happy with them.
