A concealed carry gun bill that was tabled by the Maine House on Tuesday was approved Wednesday evening. The bill would allow valid concealed carry permit holders to lock their guns in their cars at their place of work.

Opponents of a campus gun ban at the University of Colorado told the state Supreme Court on Wednesday the ban is illegal because it was not approved by the Legislature. Jim Manley, representing a group of students promoting concealed carry of firearms on campus, said lawmakers would have listed universities as exceptions in a law passed in 2003 if they wanted guns banned on campus.

U.S. Sens. Jon Tester (D-Mont.) and Richard Burr (R-NC.) are sponsoring S. 570 -- "a bill to prohibit the Department of Justice from tracking and cataloguing the purchases of multiple rifles and shotguns."

Yesterday, the House Committee on Administration of Criminal Justice unanimously passed Senate Bill 39 by a voice vote, sending it to the House floor for consideration. Sponsored by state Senators Eric LaFleur (D-28) and Neil Riser (R-32), SB 39 would clarify that Louisianans may purchase a long gun in any state, and allow a citizen of any other state to purchase a long gun in Louisiana, so long as both states allow such purchases.

On Tuesday, June 14, the state Assembly Public Safety Committee is scheduled to hear legislation that will treat traditional air and BB guns like toys by requiring BB guns, airsoft guns and other air powered guns to be brightly colored. If enacted, this bill will actually increase the safety risks associated with traditional air guns for both police officers and the public alike. Please call AND e-mail members of the Assembly Public Safety Committee and ask them not to trivialize guns by making toys out them. Urge committee members to OPPOSE SB 798.
