On Tuesday, April 12, the California Senate and Assembly Public Safety Committees, are scheduled to hear three anti-guns bills, Senate Bill 124 would ban virtually all handgun and rifle ammunition and cartridges. AB 144 would ban open carry and AB 809 would require long gun registration.

An Oklahoma House committee has narrowly killed legislation to allow handgun owners with concealed carry permits to carry weapons openly. The House Public Safety committee Wednesday voted 9-8 against the measure by Rep. Leslie Osborn. It's identical to a bill approved by the Legislature last year but vetoed by former Gov. Brad Henry.

On March 31, the Senate Agriculture, Natural Resources and Energy Committee passed Senate Bill 208 by a unanimous 7 to 0 vote. Sponsored by state Senators Gail Schwartz (D-5) and Mary Hodge (D-25), SB 208 would combine State Parks and the Division of Wildlife under the Department of Natural Resources.

House lawmakers today defeated a measure that would have taken away Chicago's ability to regulate how people store guns, a prelude to an expected spring showdown over a push to allow people to carry concealed weapons. The debate put on display the Capitol's traditional regional fight over gun rights and gun control, with conservative suburbanites and downstate lawmakers wanting to expand rights and Chicago area Democrats wanting to restrict access to weapons.

As bills in both Carolinas seek to loosen gun control laws, sides argue about the impact of allowing concealed guns into more places.
