Prayers for our troops was created by txlongshotb4

I've been thinking...Every day should be Memorial day. It's nice that we have a holiday for it, but in practice it should occur every single day. I'm not talking about the barbecues and the festivities. I mean that every single day we should do something to honor those that have given their lives for our way of life, and those who are somewhere tonight, carrying the torch. I think that perhaps the best way to honor our fallen is to teach your child-or your nieces or nephews, about honor and duty and service, about what makes this a great country, and about what we stand to loose if that torch does not continue to be carried on down the line. So I asked myself- how do I accomplish such a thing? How do I continue to find new ways to reach out to my kids with something of value to teach them every single day about service and honor and duty? Then it occurred to me that I am probably not alone here. And so, since this forum is full of both veterans and patriotic Americans as well, this is what I'd like to propose..

This thread will start with a prayer for our fallen heroes-which I will provide. What I would like to see is at least once per day, SOMEONE provide kind words, a prayer of their own for our fallen, or even better, a story or lesson we can use to teach our children about why this is so important..but in lea of these things, at the very minimum, I'd like to see someone post "amen" to the prayer-every single day from now until forever. Lets make this happen guys...

Dear Father in Heaven
We come to you this day with love in our hearts and thanks on our lips for the wonderful blessings that you have so graciously provided us with. We carry in our hearts and minds a profound respect and love for the men and women among us, those of which you have chosen to leave behind the many blessings of comfort and joy that you have provided us, and go forth into harms way to stand against the evil that would surely see us destroyed. We ask that you turn your eyes now and forever onto them, and protect them as they go into battle, lend them your strength for the task at hand, and fill them with the courage to get it done. We would ask, Lord, that if it is your will to see them through it, that you see them through it always,to ease the pain and horrors that will surely visit upon them in days to come. And Lord, if it is your will that they should fall on the battlefield, we ask that you walk them into your kingdom and place them at your side for eternity- And we ask that you would walk beside there loved ones and families as well, Lord-for their sorrows and their pains cannot be comforted by any other. In Jesus' name we pray.
Amen.

The soldier stood and faced his God Which must always come to pass...
He hoped his shoes were shining Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and Said,"No, Lord, I guess I ain't...
Because those of us who carry guns Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I've been violent, Because the streets are awfully tough.
But, I never took a penny That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime When the bills got just too steep,
And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place Among the people here...
They never wanted me around Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand,
I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand."
There was a silence all around the throne Where the saints had often trod...
As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgment of his God,
"Step forward now you soldier,
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell."
Dedicated To All That Serve... God Bless America!

Amen.

Here's something that few people know. There are actually four stanzas of the Star Spangled Banner, and even a fifth was added during the civil war...Only the first stanza is recited in the National Anthem...Here is the entire thing;

O say can you see by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner, O! long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country, should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation.
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the Heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And here is the fifth stanza, added in 1861;

When our land is illumined with liberty's smile,
If a foe from within strikes a blow at her glory,
Down, down with the traitor that tries to defile
The flag of the stars, and the page of her story!
By the millions unchained,
Who their birthright have gained
We will keep her bright blazon forever unstained;
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave,
While the land of the free is the home of the brave.

I remember singing those when I was in grade school.
I wonder if they even do that for Our childrens in the schools today ????
That prayer and poem is mighty good, it brought a tear to My eye and gratitude to My heart. Thank You for posting this thread.
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Lord,
Thank You for another day on the battlefield.
Let my bullet's aim be tried and true,
letting my enemy come home to you.
Watch over my brothers and sisters O' Lord,
as we present the weapon and shield.
Give them the strength and courage they need,
as in this day they will have a deed
which many have turned away from.
Let them know Thy will, walk thy way,
and help those of your children who still believe
themselves to be terrorists in need of a great death.
Amen.

Here is something that many do not know. The song "Taps" as played on the bugle has lyrics...Here they are...

Day is done, gone the sun
From the lakes, from the hills, from the sky
All is well, safely rest
God is nigh.
Fading light dims the sight
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright
From afar, drawing near
Falls the night.
Thanks and praise for our days
Neath the sun, neath the stars, neath the sky
As we go, this we know
God is nigh.
