30.06 Armor Piercing into .308 was created by Fausty0

1st of all, let me reassure you all that this is 100% legal in every shape, way, and form to do. By law, I am legally allowed to remove the bullet from an AP 30.06 and reload it into whatever I please. I am not, however, allowed to design and manufacture my op AP bullets.

Here is my question though. Each AP bullet pulled from the 30.06 round weighted around 161-162.5 grains. I will be using my DMPS LR-308 with a 1x10 twist. My components will be Hornady Match Grade brass, Federal 210M primer, Varget, and of course the AP bullet. The main concern I have is the powder load. I want to get the most bang for my buck and I am not finding too much information on AP ballistics considering I am not sure if they differ from your run of the mill 160-167 grain bullet.

Has anyone completed a reload like this, and if so what have you learned and what is a good powder load?

I've done some reading on this topic but have not dove in yet. Wideners sells the pulled bullets on occasion so I've been looking for info just like you. What little I found did not mention any real differences in ballistics from standard bullets of the same weight. I've never found any hard numbers on BC or anything but had always planned on using a starting load for a similar weight as a jumping off point. I figured the ladder test would be the best way to dial it in but this is all just theory on my part, no real world experience myself so I'll be following your endeavor closely, keep us posted. :usa:

I have been looking everywhere. I think what I am about to do is look up a 167 grain load and dumb it down with the power by a couple grains. I see many people reloading these bullets, but I am not sure how they do it. The bullet itself is very long and I feel like it is going to hit the powder even at Cartridge OAL. I will make a video to see how it turns out and I'll take it from there.

I'll keep ya posted!

Make sure they are round before you fire them.

SOC interesting comment, have you heard reports of deformed AP bullets? I for one would be interested to know.

I prefer the out of round ones, the more the better. They begin tumbling the instant they leave the bbl and being AP they can rip a gash bigger than a hooker on the Titanic, WOW!

These were pulled by me but just a basic bullet puller (Hammer) out of the M2 Cartridges. I also check them over very carefully! This is what I ended up doing with them.
