.260 Leaking Primers Causing Damage to Bolt Face was created by sticks.bcs

Hey Guys, I'm hoping someone out there can help me find the culprit that's causing the primer leakage. The round I'm shooting is the Remington .260 out of an Armalite AR-10T. I've fired many different combinations of bullets and powder but the load that has consistently shot the best is a 140 gr. MK Sierra with 37.4 grains of Varget with OAL at 2.785. About 10% of these loads have leaking primers which is shooting gas back at the bolt face and causing damage. I'm using Remington brass and Winchester WLR Primers. Any thoughts?

Check online to see if there are any issues with individual lots of Winchester primers. That would be my first thought. Also contact Winchester customer service to make sure it is not a manufacturing issue with that primer lot. Are the primers popping? Any chance of taking a picture of the fired brass with a leaked primer? I just bought a thousand Winchester LR primers so I am interested in this as well.
I am not familiar with 260 Rem. but is that a max load? Also, are the primers fitting snug when you insert them in the primer pocket? Is that recommended seating depth for the 260?

Just did a google search. There are reports back in 2011 of Winchester primer leaks. How old are your primers?

Those primers could have been from 2011. I'll call them tomorrow. That load is near max and is under max by just 1-10th. My gun just doesn't cycle without a near max load when using Varget. I will post a photo of the primer leaks. The primers all go in snugly. Thanks for the information.

Is anyone else using Varget in a 260?

It wasn't an article, I googled winchester primer leaks, and a number of forums popped up with reports of them. One was "snipers hide forum".
With a little luck over the next couple of days Hopefully someone else with more tech savvy then me will chime in. It is definitely blowing out the edge of the primer.
