AR10T case rim strike - issue? was created by blazermark

hi all..

been lurking a while, and have a question on my rifle..

Have a AR10T that I've owned for a while but just started getting introduced.
I am breaking in, it has the ss barrel so I did 5 rounds with a barrel and chamber brush/lube between each round, followed by 5 more..

I snagged the brass and threw it in the bag.. while stripping it down for a full clean, I was eyeballing the brass and saw a pretty obvious strike on the rim.. you can see it at 6 o'clock in the attached..

is this a cause for concern?

Did you inspect the bolt face and extractor for any irregularities? Also, I would send a copy of the picture to Armalite tech support on their website. They are really good about getting back to you quickly.
Are these factory loads or reloads? Armalite will probably ask you that. Might be an imperfection on the bolt face or more likely, the extractor. Keep us informed.

AR10T's are built to tighter tolerances than just about any other AR's and generally have about 200 rounds to get broken in completely. I would check with Armalite tech support to see if this is within normal parameters for an AR10T break in. if it continues to beat up your brass, I am wondering about your chamber dimensions. Any other odd bulges or deformations on your brass?
By the way, in the first picture your brass on each end look distorted, but I am assuming it is because of a wide angle lens in your cell phone.

I would be curios to see if these marks show up on another load. The primer strikes almost appear to show signs of high pressure which would explain the transfer of marks from the ejector and extractor.

I sent an email to armalite , will see what they say..

I have some higher quality ammo, norma and federal will try 5 each of these for the next 2 sets in break in.

this was some bulk PPU, was inexpensive and I bought a case to plink with.

I thought the same JT that's why I asked if they were reloads. Was the PPU the 147 grain NATO load? Though that shouldn't make a difference.

Armalite's also tend to be over-gassed to allow the rifle to use the widest assortment of ammo possible. Does the case head smear appear on all the ammo you've used or just the Privi 145 gr?

There also appears to be a little bit of a crease at about the one to two o-clock positions.
Not exactly opposite the smear mark.
Things is moving fast now.
