New AR 10 A2 jamming

New AR 10 A2 jamming was created by Vashar9

I need some help. My new armalite AR10 A2 has been jamming on spent cartridges. It is jamming such that a new round is being pushed into place but the spent round gets jammed by the bolt.

The riffle has had approximately 120 through it and its jammed 6 times.

I've been told that it just need to break in.

Any thoughts.

Thanks

If you can describe the ammo you are using it would be helpful.

Vashar,

I had a somewhat similar problem with my new AR-10 A4 with some 150gr Winchester I purchased at Walmart. The cases were not jamming but the bolt would not lock open on last round.

What I did was remove all oil from the bolt carrier and upper. I instead smeared a very light coating of Redline synthetic grease on the bolt carrier and inside the upper. This fixed my problem.

The carrier was short cycling. After I get a bunch more rounds through it I am sure the surfaces will smooth out and the rig will run fine.

I talked to Armalite about this and the tech told me some very late rifles went out with under sized barrel gas port holes. They were .079" instead of .084".

I am not blaming the Walmart supplied ammo. I do believe the 150 gr Winchester stuff is light on powder. I have not checked muzzle velocity since I do not have the equipment....yet.

Anyway thats my input to this.

I have read on one forum that 150 gr is a bit light for cycling with the AR-10. It also said that it could take up to 1000 rounds to break in the rifle and to keep the bolt slathered in oil. Any thoughts on that?

Its a bit unsettling about the under sized barrel gas port holes. Would Armalite do anything to correct this if that was my issue?

Thanks all

Im new to the ar10, I have dpms 308t very accurate and well built but this rifle does jam it seems to extract ok but fails to pick up new round, I have about 250 to 300 rnds through it. was told im not using enough oil and this rifle may take several more rounds to break in. Im now using 20-50 synthetic mobil 1 oil havent had the chance to try it yet.

I have the same problem and tech support emailed me and said the ar has the best result from 168gr ammo. He did say to clean gas system/lube bolt. The web site no longer allows extractor sales. I wonder if I'll be forced into sending it to factory for update.
P.S.-Anyone know of a AR smith in south Texas???
