Standard Federal match 168gr shells are touching the lands when fully chambered! What caught me on this was while out at the firing range I stopped fire and went to extract my chambered shell and it pulled the bullet completely out the cartridge? Powder going everywhere which made me quit firing for the day. I later notice the issue with the head case separation from almost all spent shells when cleaning brass! Has anyone ever recieved a factory rifle with incorrect headspace? I now have noticed my empty casings having head case separation on every fired shell? I then purchase a headspace gauge and to my surprise the reading was 2.785 from the lands to the bottom of shell case and the standard OAL of a 168gr Federal is running at or above 2.800+? Really I should be getting readingd over 2.800 when reading my headspace gauge! Luckly I’m still here with a face and hand?
WOW, that is of concern. Do you know the headspace for your AR by spec? You might want to reset the barrel or have it done if you do not have the tool set.
Is this your First firing with the weapon? As never been fired and this was first time vs its worked before?

Looks like you got some solid advise there Buster and I would certainly make the efforts to follow Armalite's suggestions for best results.
Since that's your very first post, I figured I'd throw in a solid WELCOME TO THE FORUM to ya and wish you the best and we all look forward to you keeping us posted with the suggestions, things you do, and the final results with this weapon.
I'm confident that Armalite will have you fixed up and shooting dimes in no time so I'm just glad to see new members stepping up and seeking help as well as posting in general.
Sorry about your issued but I'm sure you'll be stylin in no time.

Yes Welcome to the site...sorry about not doing so earlier...I was concerned with the issue...
I did some checking against one of my Hornady Tap... 168grn
OAL...2.802
and from the Face of the head to the top of the shoulder ... 1.713 (roughly)
I don't have a HSG.... but checking my round with my calipers...there is possibly something wrong with your ammo if you are getting the 2.785
Here is a diagram of the .308...I would double check your ammo...
Not saying there may not be a problem with the rifle...as rule of thumb...check all ammo...

I did not bring this up, but in my two times to send my weapon back to AR, its was test fired both times. Not positive anything I had done would require a test fire IMO: They replaced a screw due a new stock being put on the gun and replaced the pin on the bolt cover due to putting on the free float handguard.
I assumed based upon my exp that ALL ARs are test fired before they leave the factory...???????

For the most part they are...but not sure if the spent case are looked at..
I know it sucks...but sometimes things do slip through the cracks...
It is like the Extractor on mine when I bought it...I still am wondering about the ammo though...
Wish Uncle ArmaLite would chime in...Might have to send him a note...
