open sights - recommendation? was created by blazermark

hey all.. looking for a recommendation an a set of open sights for my AR10T?

its a factory standard flattop 16" carbine - and I run an Armalite mount and a scope.

like the gun, but don't shoot it a lot with the scope. Wanted to put some open sights on it but I find myself a little confused over what would be the correct front/rear combo to start with.. so much seems to be available for an ar15 - but not so sure what would be effective on the 308?

I don't want to over/under spend - but looking for something decent quality.. I did buy an armalite after all.. :laugh: .. and I don't want to put junk on it.

MI makes good stuff;

Armalite has some good stuff as well with lots of options shown;

Hard to go wrong with Magpul products, just give them a call and they will make sure you get the correct set to fit your T.

This is the set I'd go for. LMT makes great sites and these look very effective imho.

Make sure they have a gas block height set, these are same height full length rail type.

I guess that's part of the confusion for me.. the ones on armalite site said the same thing.. Sight bases must be mounted on same level plane.

appears to me the factory gas block is a bit lower than the rail, correct?
is there some decoder ring I need to get the front and rear to line up?

I use this one on my gas block;
www.armalite.com/ItemForm.aspx?item=EA50...26-89c9-15fac1afdf18
My rear BUIS is this one;
www.armalite.com/ItemForm.aspx?item=BUIS

Height listed as 1.530 for my front sight as opposed to the AR-15 gas block sight at 1.395. There may be a riser so the same height sights can be used on the gas block,Yankee Hill makes one but I'm not sure on the height, might be just for AR-15's

Your best bet is to call the maker or retailer and confirm they will work, I am sure the combo above works on my Armalite though.......

Good call, JT. I didn't read close enough that he needed a gas block front sight. This is what I have on my dpms config AR-10 - the JP A-tower with adjustable gas screw - good fit for my carbine length gas system.

I have matched this with 3 different rear sights with no problems. I currently am using a 'no name' used carry handle rear sight I found on eBay for $20...I liked it because it was painted od green..and is the most accurate rear sight match for my JP that I've tried.

A buddy of mine has the Magpul MBUS Pro. I like them, just haven't ponied up for a set quite yet.

I am assuming you are not wanting match sights, but if you are, the Phoenix is really good (and expensive.) But get the one that mounts on the same side as the eye you use to sight or you will be getting hit in the opposite eyebrow from the recoil.
