Ok... Call me a n00b or what have you... I'm trying to figure out exactly what the difference is between an AR10 and an AR10T.

Based on some quick searching, it looks like the AR10T is soley manufactured by Armalite and the T stands for Target/sporter/Tactical? Is this true?

Also, is there anything physically different between an AR10 and an AR10T?

I have a standard stock, Picatinny railed upper (and gas block) bushmaster .308 AR10. I can't seem to find much info on this rifle on the internet. (other than a few pics) It doesn't appear that bushmaster sells it anymore.

The AR-10T is going to be more accurate. It currently comes with a triple lapped stainless steel barrel and a free float front hand guard, ,as well as a foreward assist. Armalite guarantees 1 moa. with the AR-10T. I shot a 3/8's inch group with mine at a 100 yards. The regular AR-10 will have a chrome lined barrel and is generally known to shoot 1 1/2-2" groups at 100 yards. I beleive they both come with the two stage trigger but I may be wrong. For the extra few hundred I would definately go with the T model. Hope this helps.

So, I can't find much info on mine, except that it looks like only 2000 of them were made. I'm shooting .5" at 100yds right now w/ the factory trigger and reloaded ammo. (guessing it's about 7lbs) I figure I can shrink this MOA with a better trigger to reduce the human factor even more.

What bullet weight are you shooting and what is the twist rate of the barrel? Both of those factors can make a huge difference in your group size. Usually, 155-168 gr. match ammo shoots pretty good in these rifles. Mine shoots the Georgia Arms 168 gr. match better than the Federal Gold Medeal Match. Every rifle is a little different.
What scope are you using and how is it mounted?
Have you checked your natural point of aim before shooting and in between shots? What is your experience level? As you now see, we can try to give advice and ask questions but we need more information from you to help you close up your group size. Other suggestions;
1) A bi-pod will help.
2)I also use a bean bag to cup the rear of my stock and raise it up and down to the desired height, as well as pull it in to my shoulder. Then again, I am used to shooting from the prone position.
3)I use very little pressure holding my pistol grip, only enough to properly acquire my next target while controlling my trigger pull and follow through.
We need more information.

Are you shooting .5 = 1/2" at 100 yards or 5" at 100 yards. If it is .5 or 1/2" at 100 yards you are doing well.

My scope is a Ziess Conquest 3-9x40. I'm using 150gr Sierra Pro Hunters. I'm firing from a fixed bench with a sinclair benchrest and rear bag. My shooting experience stems from childhood, to the Marine Corps, to bench firing hunting rifles for deer hunting along with my other guns that I shoot for fun mostly between 100-300yds. (don't really need to practice outside of that range anymore) My remington 700 is currently putting up a single hole for 3 shot groups at 100yds, so I know if the gun is capable, then so am I. The Corps gave me plenty of experience with AR style trigger pull, but I'm looking to replace it with something similar to my jewell trigger setup in my remington. This will reduce the slight pull that you really can't fix on a 7lb trigger w/ plenty of slack. I'll post a pic of my current shot group after sighting the scope in when I get home to show you where I'm at. I don't need the trigger dropped down to a 1 lb like on my rem... but maybe 2-3lbs would be good.

yes, I'm meaning .5" = 1/2"

I think someone might be sand-bagging. That is a beautiful group. And thank you for your service. Check with www.brownells.com they have some nice accessories for the AR-10/AR-15 family. Their number is 1-800-741-0015. Also , mention that you are/were military and they might give you dealer pricing.
All of our snipers use the Remington 700 platform and have had your same experiences. We have also found the AR-10T platform can be "so close", in performance, out to 800 yards that it has become my choice due to the ability to lay down additional suppressive firepower if needed. I am with you, my scope is a Swarovski 6x18x50. Ya gotta love German glass. Again, nice group. Please post another pic after the new trigger

Congrats on the new rifle. As for triggers I think the original AR10Ts were supposed to have their National Match trigger. I had one and I'll be honest with you, it wasn't that good. They said you had to run a couple hundred pulls through it or something like that before it got good. Mine never got good. I have a Milazzo, a Knights Armament, a couple of Geisseles and had run a couple of the Jewells for a while. Any one of those other three felt better for me than the Jewell, with that Milazzo probably the best I've ever pulled. You don't have the adjustability of the Jewell for the AR with the others though. YMMV.

Some of the early ArmaLites AR10s came with a Mike Rock 5R barrel and they were quite good shooters, I hear.

Just re-read you inititla post and an AR10 and AR10T are made by ArmaLite, the "T" being the Target model with a the better barrel and trigger. If what you have is made by Bushmaster I don't know much about it.

Yeah, I have a Bushmaster. I bought it second hand in December of `08. I don't know how many rounds have been cycled through it, but if I had to guess I would say less than 500. As for a trigger, I've been checking out JARD. It looks like I might try a 2lb trigger from them. I just have to do some more research and read some reviews to see what people that have used them think.

I also need to do some additional research to see if it is one of the famed BAR's that have the Bolt Carrier group issues. I think I'll contact Bushmaster and have them check my serial number.
