Three Prong Flash Hiders? was created by 2336

Folks, is there anyone out there that is selling a three prong flash hider, like the old M16/M16A1 style in 5/8-24?

If you got the cash for them vortex makes one hell of a product in a four prong: www.smithenterprise.com/products06.01.html

I agree with you on that - Vortex is one of the top names in flash hiders, AND they're very proud of their products! I was looking for a more vintage look to my AR10. I've got a couple M16/M16A1 three prong units so I might see if I can get a local machine shop to ream one out a bit and tap it for 5/8-24. There's plenty of room in between the prongs. Looks like almost enough room for a .50! I was just hoping that I could just order one instead of having to get one machined. Thanks for the input though. :)

I've looked at the AAC Blackout three-prong unit. Looks nice and a little less expensive than Vortex's gear but I'd still like the vintage look of a "modified" M16 three-prong unit. ANy advice or input gang?

Looking at the Vortex product at the link you fist notice it for .50 cal, then you see the application, such as the .50 Gatling gun.

All this begs the question: What is the application?

As I have been doing research I have found 2 that seem to be the answer:

My driving thought is function over form, if what you want is 3/4 prong then go for it by all means...

It's not exactly the retro look you are after but it's as close as I have seen.

I've got an AAC Blackout flash hider on my LR-308. I think it looks good, but it's definitely not the same as the Vietnam era three prong M16 flash hider.

I think your best bet is reaming out and re-threading the three prong flash hider you have. Either way, I'd like to see the result.
