Had one on a 10.5" pistol upper for a while. tan around six hundred rounds through it. Was not impressed, sold it.

- Directs blast forward like a Noveske pig
- No noticable effect on muzzle control, still seemed to rise a bit
- Increased felt recoil, most likely due to the forward direction of blast
- Styling was rather hokie.........did not care for it at all
- Huge flash in low light,.......think flame thrower!

Personally, an A2 flash hinder was more useful.

Here is an excellent thread with reviews on several flash hiders and comps;

The videos are very telling. :usa:

Maybe a little off topic but I'm wondering if there is a particular powder one could load that has a reduced flash?
I've noticed certain commercial loads advertise a reduced flash.

Would think that would be possible, however, I see no need for it.

Taylor the muzzle device for the task at hand, not the ammo for the muzzle device. I went on a hog hunt and was able to borrow a fancy scope from a guy who worked at TNVC. I swapped my muzzle device for a. Smith Vortex, specifically for this hunt.

Thanks people. Advice was great-learned much. Cheers PS-Was looking for a muzzle brake to reduce bbl flip-not predominantly recoil-which is minimal.The bbl is 16" and gas ports on the side of a .308 Win probably would annoy the beejesus out of the bench shooters to my right and left-wouldn't want to do that.I thought I could find a MB with gas ports on top only to control bbl rise.

What was your reasoning and objective in doing this?

The Vortex reduces the .223 Rem flash to nearly nothing......muzzle flash is an unwanted byproduct when shooting at night.

Nearly any "compensator" or "brake" is going to produce a great deal more side concussion. The Battlecomp works very well, as do the JP Enterprises models. If you are concerned about other shooters, stick with a A2 flash hider.
