Ejection issues was created by Dabster

Hello all!

My AR-10t has started to fail to eject empty cases. I have posted a lot about it here: www.ar15.com/mobile/topic.html?b=3&f=121&t=633782

Everything seems fine but short of sending it off to Armalite, my only option seems to be, start swapping parts. First of all, has anyone had any luck mailing a malfunctioning gun to Armalite? Any horror stories?

Secondly, as someone suggested, I am thinking of trying a new extractor. Besides the factory extractor... Is there a (better) alternative?

Thanks!

Fail to eject is too broad for a diagnosis.

Is it leaving the case in the chamber?

Is it partially extracting at all?

Is the shell getting hung up in the ejection port?

What ammo are you using?

How often and what method do you use to clean your rifle?

Can you take pics of the malfunction?

Pics of any damage/marks on brass that didn't eject?

Pics of bolt assembled and disassembled and each part in detail.

Armalite has excellent customer service. Try giving them a call. They will ask you exactly what SOC did in the message above.

Until you scope the chamber and prove otherwise, it is the likeliest problem. Sometimes the smallest defect will cause this kind of problem, so off you go to the LGS. They should be able to scope it and polish out anything they find for less than 50.00. Please keep us updated.

Sounds like a worn out buffer spring?

How many rounds fired in the ten years you've owned it?
There's a good chance you just need some basic maintenance if the round count is high, like a fresh extractor, gas ring, and some new springs all around.
Looking forward to hearing what it takes to get her back up to speed. :usa:

After looking at the pictures closely, it looks like there might be some excessive wear on the extractor. Take a look at the edge closest to the top of the bolt. There look to be some shiny spots there. Remove the extractor and take a look at the underside of the edge that engages the case rim. If there's a burr on that edge, the rims of the cases could be hanging up on it and thus not getting ejected properly.

Shooter states:

-USA Match 168gr JBTHP
-800-900 round count

Did not see where he replaced the extractor, although he discussed the idea of finding one.
I would also replace the EJECTOR spring.

Had a Garand doing this, an ejector spring fixed it.
