There are a couple of places around Austin that you may want to check:

McBrides www.mcbridesguns.com
Note: Don't trust their website for available inventory.

Austin Gun Liquidators www.austingunliquidators.com
Note: Ask for Scott. I think he has some on order. Not sure on delivery time frame.

These are not near Austin but worth checking:

DSG Arms (dsgarms.com) in Fort Worth.
Lucy Creek Arms (lucycreekarms.com) in Lampasas.

Good luck!

Welcome to the site, I'm not from the Texas area but I would like to help. I have learned from my wife (if she ever heard that, I would never hear the end of it, hahahaha) sometimes you just have to order what you want. You said you have a dealer that you go through, have him check and see what the time frame is on ordering one, that is if you can't find one on the shelf that you want. Don't settle for less than your ideal rifle, you will be alot happier in the end, and you won't spend as much building it either. Not sure about the not buying from the northeast, personal preference I guess.
Anyway welcome and good luck.

Hi,

I would look on Gunbroker.com I have seen some Ar10s on there at decent prices.

Heres one starting price $1250 no reserve:

www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=134173631

Heres another one at $1450 starting no reserve:

www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=133711907

You might be able to one at a decent price on this sight.

There are other options besides GunBroker as well. One of the best suppliers of AR-10 Parts and components is: www.762sass.com/
Every time Armalite produces a few extra parts and posts them, it seems like this site has them available within about two days for a slightly higher price. Also check the Armalite site regularly once you've decided on a configuration. Your FFL dealer should be able to call Armalite directly and place an order.
Good luck
