Fox also good idea on powders. He should not need the small base dies because these are gas assisted bolt rifles with a true rotery bolt unlike the M1A.] He needs to get the powder and then we all can work off of what he comes up with. Right now Varget and R-15 are the only powders in short supply. I went to the ware house Friday and small rifle primers and those 2 powders were the only things short. It looks like any thing on the 223 ammo load list is still short but he had a ton of 223 ammo.MSH
Could you please embellish... on the part in red...
Hey Teach...(MSH) what was that you said to me about a cat house in Vegas when I was looking at case length.... LLLLLLOOOOOLLLLL
 ohmy... :woohoo:
Well MSH is our gunsmith and part of the reloading council so he definitely knows what he talking about...but I am going to add the experience of a novice and throw out my .25 worth...
You can always just trim to factory length 2.00" for the case...Be sure to follow your guide (manual) for over all case length...do not exceed it...
On the powder, I my self use the IMR 4895-150 gr FMJ,,,also IMR 4064=BTHP, haven't loaded up that one yet....and also Reloader 15-168gr A-MAX....Need the bullets for that powder...
But all in all "M" will help you, he is the one who does the matches and stuff so if you listen to anyone...well...
Oh and welcome to the site...

It sure seems like everyone is a huge fan of the heavier bullets for their .308 around here hehe... I think I'm the only one shooting smaller than 165gr. I'm launching 150gr Sierra Pro Hunters and sticking them in about a .5" group @ 100yds with my lil bushy BAR-10 w/ a 16" barrel. I know for a fact this bullet can easily drop deer and hogs.
I'm using 165 and 168gr bullets for my 30/06, but haven't seen the need for it in my .308. I'll post my recipe when I get home. I can't remember it all off the top of my head right now.
near disaster yesterday. shooting reloads at 200 yds and getting 1 moa groups from the 10t.
misfire. eject. no strike on primer. load another round. misfire. I see the bolt not going all the way forward. take off upper and look down barrel. BULLET IN BARREL!!!!!! holy S--t!.
Had to have loaded a round on the progressive reloader with primer only. Had that bullet traveled another half inch down the barrel allowing me to fire the next round it would not have been pretty.Lessons learned, thankfully not the hard way.
Hey Fox....
Man you are a lucky ---...glad you are ok...wouldn't want you to end up like that guy with the muzzle loader..barrel blew up...not pretty...I think I sent that to you or visa versa.. Loading .308 on a progressive...again.. I will stick with my single stage on my .308s...less change of me trusting my self to far....

Well this thread has got me energized. I got every thing in house a couple weeks ago to start reloading for my AR10. I've never reloaded rifle rounds but have loaded a few K of handgun ammo.
I have both Varget and 4895 for powder. Win and CCI primers.
I'll report back in a couple days how it goes. I'm tired of paying about 47 cents a round for surplus ammo.
