.308 Military Brass - Do they require less powder? was created by MountainRN

I have been reloading Factory, commercial .308 brass (mostly Winchester and Remington), but recently I picked up a couple hundred Lake city, WCC (Winchester, military), and some Federal that were mixed.

I got the primer pockets reamed out fine and I think they will prime fine. Just got them all trimmed to length. When I went to find loading data though I found some conflicting information. It seems that it is necessary to load the Military brass with less powder.

1.Is this just because the case is thicker, hence smaller space for powder?
2.Does it make higher pressures in the chamber?
3.Will I still get similar fps?

I intend to load them with 168gr FMJHP BT

The pics show the headstamps and a side view of the casings.

Military 7.62 brass should load no different (excluding primer crimp) than any 308.

As with any change in loading components start 10% low and work up.

I find once fired military brass to be more consistent lot to lot than all but the high dollar brass manufacturers, and then only marginally.
