Selecting The Right Scope was created by JoeRider

I just purchased a new S&W M&P AR10. I would like to go boar hunting with it. Not sure what scope to buy and I'm kind of limited to $300

What distances do you normally engage at?

High power is probably less important than the light gathering abilities of whatever you buy. I am guessing low light conditions are prime time for boar hunting. Also where are you hunting? Forest, scrub, open country? A low to moderate power variable would be one choice, another would be a 3x or 4x with good light gathering abilities, and practice practice practice, and you are probably good to 400 yards if you practice enough at that distance, and become comfortable doing it.

It's up in the mountains of southern Cali so I imagine it's foresty. I have a 200 yard range I can sight my scope in up by my house in Vegas but that's as far out as I can practice. Do you have any makes and model numbers you can hook me up with?

Recently sold one of these. Was on an Armalite I took in trade.
Seemed well worth the price, other than that, can't answer any Qs

Try e-bay for a new one

I have the Nikon Monarch 4x16 44mm. You might check out this one which would have worked for me just as well.

Also take a look at the MidwayUSA/Weaver Tactical Slam scope. Pretty well made, mildot reticle, 3-10x44. Midway usually has them on sale for $199-299. Great scope for the money.
