"The upcoming National Defense Authorization Act that passed committee includes a plan to transfer the U.S. Army’s remaining stock of .45 ACP 1911A1 pistols to the Civilian Marksmanship Program.

Added as an amendment by Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Alabama, while the NDAA was in debate in the House Armed Service Committee, it could see potentially the largest remaining stock of military surplus World War II-era handguns in government hands sold to the public."

That will sure put a ding on the current collector value of the available pre-war 1911's. Sure hope I can get one!

Really not to bad to get in with the CMP, a lot less then getting a FFL and that's the nice part you don't need one! Ships direct to your door with no transfer fees.
I thought it was shot down, but very glad that it's going to happen, I can guarantee that you should get everything in order now as there will be a waiting line. First come first serve.

thecmp.org/
This would be the place where they would sell them to the public.

I hope I can get into the CMP. Just jump through hoops, and walk with a BAR, as well as a 1911. Yea, right.

Obama vetoed the Defense Appropriations bill. We will see what survives.

I think these pistols will end up as collectors items like the CMP's sale of M1's. They would be fired once in a while. These aren't even on Obama's radar. To few of them and too much cost to justify as a primary civilian weapon.
