Weight for the stock?

Weight for the stock? was created by Macky

Hi All!

I have the factory stock on my armalite ar10T. I have been looking at after market stocks for the stick. Right now, the factory one seems to do well, and it doesn't bother me, but I would like to reduce recoil if possible. The after market stocks don't seem much heavier than the factory A2 buttstock. (not that I want to feel like I'm lifting weights when on the range)

Can you add weight to a stock? I mostly plan to shoot from a bipod.

Thanks all!

The Magpul PRS is pretty heavy.

You can unscrew the butplate from the stock and put whatever you like for weight inside the hollow cavity.

Here is a basic weight from Brownells that is made for the A2 stock;www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/stock-fore...eight-prod10996.aspx

You can get it through a link on this site under the SHOP tab.

Remember, if you trim the lead A2 stock weight to do it from the front (the narrowest part). If you trim it from the back, it will move inside the stock.

Macky,

I would suggest looking into a muzzle brake for reducing recoil. Most of them cost less than a new stock.

Thanks Dabu.

I was thinking of this too. I was unsure of what kind of reduction I would see. Some things I've read say night and day.

However, my dilemma. I have a 24" inch non-threaded barrel. I guess, I could have the barrel threaded somewhere, armalite perhaps? Or is that a no-no?

I am not about to swap the barrel.

A good local gunsmith should be able to thread your barrel.

If you have a good strap wrench and allen keys you can remove the gas block, gas tube, and handguard assembly yourself and save a little $.

On the T series the handguard/barrel nut assembly normally comes off in one part.

Re-assemble in reverse order.

Normal thread for 30 cal is 5/8x24.
