I would agree with some other post here, sticking with the .308 platform for ease of parts and ballistic tables will help in building the rifle. I like the idea of a sass platform 18 to 20 inch barrel. thats just my opinion.

Thank you for getting things started. I would agree that the .308 would be best for versatility and compatibility. Also the variety of ammo manufacturers and bullet weights give the .308 a heads up in my opinion.

yes the .308 is probably the best choice. i think it should have a 20 to 22 in barrel for a little longer range,

My choice for a barrel and chambering would be 18" (first choice) or 20" (second choice) heavy stainless barrel in 7.62NATO and not the.308 Winchester commercial. A SASS type adjustable gas system is also mandoratory in case I wished to can it at a later date.

In addition, I would like the SS barrel buffed and coated with a protective finish in earth tone brown or OD green.

I reckon Armalite has me almost covered already in the above departments with their Super SASS model.

In my mind an AR-10 is 7.62x51mm, and ideally would be compatable with quality .308 Win. If other calibers can be accomodated with interchangable uppers, so much the better.

It should be available with a 20"+ barrel option intended to capitalize on the cartridge's capabilities at range. A shorter option might also be useful, delivering at least the range/accuracy of the ar-15, with at least the power of the ak-47.
