Good advice guys and thanks.

I'm thinking I'll stay away from the devious routes this time as what my REAL goal is, is just to get here shooting which a 5.56 will certainly do.

Then maybe later on, laws permitting (God help us), I'll pick up a nice AR10 carbine for myself and then let her shoot it whenever she wants some challenges.

Having been a "Trooper" myself, I can tell you that my wife really IS one. Pretty on the outside with the ability to be tough as nails on the inside but as with anything else, she needs something she is VERY comfortable with that will hook her like a fish into the shooting game.

5.56 will probably work best for that and maybe even make her hungry enough to help me start saving for the carbine...

Devious? Perhaps. But I know my wife and once she joins, she joins all the way so I'm just bettin on experience for MY next toy... :)

Thanks to all.

Pros and cons of getting an M15 chambered in .223 Wylde?

I understand that it gives you the ability to shoot heavier ammo (80 gr) but what would be the downs as compared to a normally chambered rifle?

Thoughts please.

Thanks

Armalite has a good comparison in this tech note. If I read right the Wylde chamber should give you more options? I'm not sure but somebody will be. :usa:

I read something along the same lines and thanks.

I've seen the PLUS side when it comes to being able to shoot the heavy stuff but I'm wondering if there are any disadvantages to it.

I mean, if they don't make a LOT of em that way and the prices are roughly the same, logically thinking, then there must be a reason they aren't more popular since you can shoot more stuff with it - if ya know what I mean...

Thanks JT.

The wylde chamber is within the specs for 5.56 nato I'll be it on the tight side in certian places and looser in others.

In genneral it gives more accuracy without a loss in reliability.

In short it is the best of both worlds.

As to why 5.56 chambers are still used when thw Wylde is so much better... The 5.56 is simply more prolific and established.

My preferance is for a Wylde chamber with 1/7 twist as it is reliable and will stabelize everything from 40gn to 77gn and even heavier bullets so long they can only be loaded one at a time.

If you're still looking for a x39 let me know where/who you've looked at, in a PM. RRA is just down the road and I have an FFL buddy who is a dealer.

10 month wait on the RRA?

Bad idea!

I got to check one of those out when a guy brought it to the range. It was a jam-o-matic. The ammunition it ran best with was Winchester white box, but even then it wasn't good. Accuracy was worse than most AK type rifles.

It could have been a fluke, but I'd look twice at the reviews on it.

I think we're gonna sit on this for a bit and see what comes up. I'm probably gonna go the M15 route if I find a price but we'll see what happens.

Thanks everyone for the input.
