The perfect general purpose 308 AR was created by Siscowet

Okay, back to what we are, which is a 308/7.62 website. Also time for some stimulating arguments. The challenge is this: Describe what you see as the best all around 308 AR in terms of manufacturer, model, style, barrel length/weight, etc, etc, etc,. And be prepared to defend your choice from the comments of your fellow forum Members. Also included are optics/sights.
ILet the arguements begin.

For general purpose.
16" light or medium profile.
Flattop with acog or variable scope topping out at 10-12x.
Full length float tube handguard, non railed or modular.
A good led light.
collapsible stock.
AAC762SD or similar.

That set up gets in and out of vehicles quicker, carries easier, and can feed and protect pretty much anywhere in all but the African plains, and there it still might get you by.

Why the non railed float tube handguard? Just accuracy?
Direct impingement or piston type?
Manufacturer? Model?

That is pretty much my idea of a GP 308 AR too

I really like the floating non-railed hand guard
I like the lighter weight and the better accuracy but I want one with the option to add rails at the front as needed for what ever need may arise

My preferences would lean towards a 16 stainless bull barrel, threaded for use with a suppressor or flash hider.
Either a LWRC piston set up, or Armalite AR 10. An adjustable gas block for use with a suppressor. Want a free float rail system for add on NVD, With a Nikon 308 BDC 4-16x Scope. Due to weight I would go with Magpul BUIS . An Eotech ESPX2 Holo sight would be a possible alternative for both.
The piston option might give me a folding stock option since I really don't like the AR telescoping type stocks. Harris light weight bipod. How about slings?

I prefer modular systems over full rails. Really only the top rail needs to be full length, and if I were making it my way I'd have mounting positions in between the normal clock locations for better positioning of lights.

I'll stick with DI. So far that I have seen, LWRC is the only .308 piston worth a damn. Not knocking it by any means but The AR is fine the way it is.

Manufacturers should include Armalite,LWRC,LMT,MEGA, might be able to do it with larue obr but I don't care for whats going on with those handguards. If I were building today, those would the brands I'd be trying to choose between.

Might check out the Rock River Arms Elite operator. It has a lot of this already.
