The 7mm08 is so close to the ballistics of the 308 its nearly identical. It performs only slightly less than the 308. The shining star is of course the .270 in that shootoff.

My next build is gonna be a 243win. I love that cartridge and see no need to venture away from the easy to find ammo calibers. Between my 308 upper and 243 ill have all my bases covered and can use my EDM lower for both uppers.

Armalite, when they are`nt running behind, has complete .243 uppers.
I wood sure like to get one of them for Mine AR10 lower.
I have two bolt action .243s so reloading is an ongoing thing.
Things is moving fast now.

.243 or something like it is what the military should have looked at in 1960 instead of the 5.56 round. It is an excellent round, and does what the 5.56 cannot. Not sure it can do what a 7.62x51 can, however. But for a general carry military personal weapon, it would have been a good choice of caliber IMO.
