Hello From The Hillbilly. I am a new AR10 owner. The weapon has an AR10-C specification. My dealer says that the weapon has a twenty inch barrel that is chrome lined and has a match trigger. The fact is I am too inexperienced with ARs and tactical weapons in general. ( I am from the older 'bolt-action' generation.) So I will be asking some pretty basic questions that will expose my inexperience. I am hoping to get information from law enforcement and military folks when I can, but appreciate all the help I can get. So...The weapon has never been fired. I have read and re-read the manual. So while I do not have a T or S version of the weapon, am I doing any damage to the weapon by not breaking in the barrel without using moly-coated ammo? Its difficult to find. Thanks...

Armalite recomends the Moly coated rounds for breaking in Match barrels. They don't say you can't use regular copper jacket ammo so long as it is of good quality, they only indicate they think it breaks in faster with the moly coat. For a regular barrel I'd probably follow their break in procedure using normal ammo. Mind you, I've found that Cabela's tends to carry the moly coated ammo. If you're looking for it, try there.

I am the newest on the forum and have lots of questions. Just purchased a used AR 10 w/o sights. Fired yesterday just to make sure she works and am quite pleased so far. Any suggestions on sights, I'm thinking of open type for now. Shot AR 15 in military and prefer to keep that way for now. I also want to know what model I have. So bear with me as I try to learn how to use this forum and also about the AR 10.

First off, welcome to the forum! For mechanical sights, go to Armalite's web site (www.armalite.com). They offer MI (Midwest Industries) back up sights that are very high quality.

I'm new to this site, but a long time owner of an original AR-10 A2. I have always wished for a resource like this because most people look at me funny when I try to get info or parts for my AR-10, they always say something like "you mean AR-15, right?" Most folks don't even know a .308 version of the AR-15/M-16 rifle exists (much less that it predates both or that Eugene Stoner devloped them from the AR-10 prototypes).

I currently have the original A2 barrel on a 10T upper that Armalite installed for me a few years ago. You know, the one with the staked on (welded) muzzle brake and I am itching to change it out for something threaded, a little longer, a bit heavier, and maybe coated stainless or chrome lined but am having little luck in locating anything that isn't Armalite (which is currently back-ordered until doomsday it seems). Any help here would be very much appreciated.

The rifle currently shoots great with the existing barrel, but after almost ten thousand rounds through it, it's getting a little worn and could use a refresh.

Thanks for the new resource and I'll be happy to do my part whenever possible.

Welcome to the forum. I am new here too.
For a barrel, you may get faster results if you go through an Armalite dealer. They get stuff before direct to Armalite customers do. Just a thought.

Welcome Wyldman, I also share your beusement when people don't seem to know what the AR-10 is.

Noveske and GAP are the outfits I'd turn to for a barrel besides Armalite. Noveske is also backordered and not taking new ones, Not sure if GA Precision sells the barrel separately, nor their backorder status.

This has become a rough market for a buyer in terms of both supply and price.

Hi all,
Just joined the forum. Have been searching the web for a couple of months, it's hard to find a lot AR-10 specific. I bought my Eagle Arms carbine in December from a guy at work. It was shot so little that the phosphate on the bolt carrier lands wasn't even polished off. My son & I put about 60 rounds through it the next day, what a blast! I'm starting load development work now although, being in Michigan, there have been few days pleasant enough to do that lately. Also, don't have a scope yet, shooting groups at 100 yds with the Eotech may limit my ability to see what group sizes this rifle is really capable of. My starting load of IMR-4895 in Lake city cases and 165 SPBT Hornadys grouped 1.6". Thats far better than the NATO surplus did. Wyldman, you might check out Kreigers web sight, he'll make almost any barrel you want and headspace to your bolt for about $500. I ultimately want to get a second A4 upper with one of his barrels in .22 middlestead (.243 necked to .224). I've attached a picture of my AR. Also, a gunsmith could mill of the weld over the pin, remove the pin and brake and there are threads under it. I think the threading is 5/8-24 and that's fairly standard for .308 barreled ARs.

Martin
Chris is wanting gas tubes, how is the best way of contacting him without throwing the info all over the web. I haven't got this new format figured out yet on that.
thanks MSH

Great day finding your site. I was reading a news article about web sites that Obama lovers wanted banned, that's how I found you. I bought a Bushmaster AR-10 4 years ago and I love it. I do not yet hunt ( I did when I was much younger and in the 'Nam) but I go to the range regularly and fire 100-300 rounds of handmade cartridges. Last year I added a Trijicon ACOG scope and a Limbsaver pad. That pad took away about 50% of the shoulder pain and gave me the chance to build up my .308 pecs. I shoot left and right handed. I use a Forster press, Winchester brass, Hornady 150 gr with Varget. Due to the occasional loading jams I think I should get some 168gr and perhaps some grease to see if that helps.
Based on what I've read in these excellent forums. Thanks Martin.
