I don't think there's any way around it, especially with a loaded magazine, but this is going to be a heavy rifle. I'm looking forward to getting everything assembled and puttung a few rounds downrange... Thanks for the complement!!

Um Marty, you're drooling all over it! :rotfl: :rotfl:

I'm actually thinking about making more of these vise blocks in both the AR-10 and AR-15 flavors and selling them..

I started assembling the hand guard outer receiver nut to the upper receiver. This step requires the receiver nut secured to the upper using LocTite 271.

Critically important is the position of this nut in relation to the gas rod hole and the top rail. I use the gas tube to ensure perfect alignment and let the assembly sit overnight before moving on to the next step...

My AR-10 build is coming together quite nicely. I have the upper fully assembled and things went pretty well.

When assembling the barrel to the upper receiver, I always square off the front of the upper to ensure that the barrel extension flange rests squarely once the barrel nut is torqued. A also apply Never Seize to the barrel extension and the nut threads to prevent galling and seizing.

Lookin GREAT!

On bbl torquing: You said you torqued to 50 ft lbs? What is the upper/lower limits?

Do you re-torque after you have fired it a few times?

Thanks Cowboy!

The torque specs generally run from 30 to 80 foot pounds. I believe the barrel nuts could be made much simpler and less expensive by eliminating 1/2 of the tightening slots. This could also solve many of the gas tube alignment issues as well.

I have rechecked the torque in the past but to tell you the truth, I've never had one move. Since this is a 7.62 I will check it though to be sure....
