Representatives Tim Griffin (R-AR02) and Mark Critz (D-PA12) have introduced an important bipartisan piece of legislation for those facing the prospect of bankruptcy. The Protecting Gun Owners in Bankruptcy Act of 2011 (H.R. 1181) amends federal bankruptcy law to add personal firearms to the list of permissible exemptions. Under this bill, individuals would be able to retain up to $3,000 worth of personal firearms during bankruptcy proceedings.

Senator Jon Tester today introduced legislation to allow American combat veterans to legally register firearms they acquired on the field of battle. American veterans who acquired certain types of weapons during combat under rules of military conflict guns known as "trophy" firearms are typically unable to legally register the weapons.

Votes Wednesday on two proposals to impose new gun restrictions in Illinois may point to increasing support for concealed carry in the General Assembly. "I still feel very good about it," said Rep. Brandon Phelps, D Harrisburg, sponsor of a House concealed carry bill.

Some gun owners could carry concealed firearms into establishments where alcohol is served under a bill passed by the Ohio Senate. The Senate voted 25 7 Wednesday to allow people to carry concealed guns into restaurants or bars as long as the license holder does not drink any alcohol. The measure would still ban people from carrying a firearm into any establishment that clearly prohibits concealed weapons on the premises.
