On April 8, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) issued a letter to all Kansas Federal Firearm Licensed (FFL) dealers informing them that a valid Kansas concealed carry permit may be used as an alternative to an inquiry of the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) for the purchase or transfer of a firearm.

Earlier today, House Bill 1438 was signed into law by Governor Jack Dalrymple. This employee protection legislation previously passed both chambers of the North Dakota Legislature with tremendous bipartisan support. HB 1438 will go into effect on August 1.

Last week, the deadline for filing bills passed in state the House of Representatives. The state Senate deadline will pass next week, but there is one bill we want to report on in advance of that bill filing deadline.
