After more than a decade of work to secure the right to carry concealed handguns for self-defense in Wisconsin, success is finally within reach. The NRA supported Senate Bill 93, the Personal Protection Act (PPA), as it was amended in the Senate Judiciary Committee. The amended bill, sponsored by state Senator Pam Galloway (R-Wausau), allowed law-abiding citizens to carry concealed without a license for self-defense in the same manner as is available to the citizens of four other states. It also included the option of obtaining a concealed weapons license, for those who must pass through school zones or who want to be able to carry a firearm for self-defense while traveling in a number of other states through reciprocal agreements.

State law enforcement agencies would be authorized to offer the public cash in exchange for guns under a bill passed today by the Delaware Senate. According to Senate Bill 25, authored by Sen. Robert Marshall (D-Wilmington West), police departments could offer $100 for every gun turned in by a citizen.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R., Calif.) is set to issue a number of subpoenas to federal officials who have ties to “Fast and Furious,” a secret program run by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) that put thousands of semi-automatic firearms into the hands of Mexican drug cartels.

An assembly bill aimed at making it illegal in California to openly carry a firearm is one step closer to becoming a law. Assembly Bill 144 passed the State Public Safety Committee this week.

On Tuesday, June 14, the House State Government and Elections Committee will hear Senate Bill 17, concealed carry reform, at 1:00 p.m. in Room 116 of the Capitol. Also on Tuesday, June 14, the Senate Judiciary Committee on Criminal Justice will hear House Bill 54, which would provide individuals a pathway to restore firearm rights, at 4:00 p.m. in the North Hearing Room of the Senate Building.
