News

Last week, another deadline passed in the Oklahoma legislative process, as bills not passed out of committee will lie dormant until next year. Here is an update on a number of pro-gun bills this session:

On April 9, House Bill 80 passed in the state House of Representatives by a 33 to 6 vote. HB 80 would remove the duty-to-retreat in Alaska.

House Bill 2067, introduced by state Representative Ross Hunter (D-48), would repeal the existing Washington law that provides for the reimbursement of legal defense costs to law-abiding citizens who are charged with a crime but found not guilty by reason of self-defense. Here is actual language from the law that is proposed to be repealed: “No person in the state shall be placed in legal jeopardy of any kind whatsoever for protecting by any reasonable means necessary, himself or herself, his or her family… When a person charged with a crime…is found not guilty by reason of self-defense, the state of Washington shall reimburse the defendant for all reasonable costs…”

Three pro-gun measures will be working their way through the legislature in Salem during the coming days and your support will be the key to their progress.

Today, House Bill 1016 was signed into law by Governor Chris Gregoire. Sponsored by state Representative Brian Blake (D-19), NRA member and staunch supporter of firearm rights, HB 1016 legalizes the use of firearm suppressors. This legislation will take effect 90 days after adjournment.
