House Bill 650, the NRA-backed omnibus firearm bill, passed second reading on Tuesday afternoon. Unfortunately, an anti-gun amendment introduced by state Representative Chuck McGrady (R-117) was adopted by a narrow 59 to 57 vote. This amendment eliminated the Parking Lot language that would have barred any business from prohibiting Right-to-Carry permit holders from storing firearms in their vehicles while parked on the property of that business. Several state Representatives who have historically supported gun owners cast surprising votes in favor of this amendment.

The 2011 Nevada Legislature adjourned on June 6 with a number of pro-gun bills advancing during the 120-day session.

On May 24, House Bill 4371 passed in the Michigan House by an 85 to 23 vote and has been referred to the Senate Committee on Outdoor Recreation and Tourism. Please contact your state Senator and urge him or her to support HB 4371. Introduced by state Representative Peter Pettalia (R-106), HB 4371 would establish a mentored youth hunting program allowing parents to determine at which age their kids are ready to hunt.

Contact members of the Senate Appropriations Committee TODAY to OPPOSE AB 144! Unfortunately, the California Senate Public Safety Committee sided with the anti-gun extremists and passed Assembly Bill 144, the open carry ban bill, by a 4 to 2 vote yesterday. This bill now goes to the Senate Appropriations Committee.

At 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, the Interim Joint Committee on Natural Resources and Environment will hold a meeting to discuss the proposed Sandhill Crane hunting season, prior to its official filing by the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission. At this time, you should begin contacting members of the Interim Joint Committee, who can be found by clicking here. While this meeting will not determine the outcome of the proposed season, it is important that we continue to show how important it is to use hunters as the conservation tool for Kentucky’s abundant and sustainable population of Sandhill Cranes.
